Durham and Rievaulx

Close links between Rievaulx and Durham included two early Bishops of Durham who made grants to the abbey.

Bishop William of St Barbe (1143-52) gave Crosby in the parish of Leake, and an interest in Cowton in the parish of Northallerton. William’s successor Bishop Hugh du Puiset (1153-95) confirmed the latter gift.
